Governor Newsom has signed AB 2555, the cannabis compassion bill, as part of a package of bills supporting veterans in California.

The high cost of medical cannabis, particularly its taxation, has made it impossible for many patients who are financially challenged to obtain a sufficient and steady supply of their medicine.

SB 34 (Weiner, 2019), exempted cannabis donated to financially challenged patients from taxation. Provisions of that law will expire on March of 2025, and must be renewed, in order to continue to supply needy patients with cannabis.…

Know Your Employment Rights As A Cannabis Consumer in California

As of January 1, 2024, most Californians are protected by a Cal NORML-sponsored bill which states that employers may not refuse to hire, fire, or penalize an employee based on the results of hair or urine tests for marijuana. Prospective employees are also protected against questions about their past marijuana use. Employees may not be impaired by cannabis on the job, and may be subject to an oral fluid, breath or blood test. Federal employees and those in the construction trades are not protected.

The DCC Cannabis Advisory Committee (CAC) will be holding the inaugural meeting of its Medicinal Use subcommittee on Monday, February 13th at 1 pm. The public is invited to testify at the meeting, which will be held virtually. The meeting will be devoted to defining the subcommittee’s scope, and identifying and prioritizing of topics for discussion in 2023. See meeting notice and agenda.
