How it works

Four steps, one conversation

The Giveback Program turns a product you are already selling into ongoing support for the advocacy work that protects your customers and lowers taxes.

Step 01

Pick your SKUs

Products from your brand catalog, particularly new or mid-performing SKUs. The set rotates as inventory changes.

Step 02

Support California NORML

Every contribution funds CA NORML’s advocacy for California cannabis consumers, a cause your customers already care about.

Step 03

Set your split

A small dollar added at the register, or a portion of existing margin. Built around your economics.

Step 04

We tell the story

We’ll help you increase sales through co-branded assets, events, and advertising. You’ll receive quarterly impact reporting you can actually use.

Questions

Before you enroll

Does this replace my membership?

No. The Giveback Program is an additional way for cannabis brands to provide support through sales rather than, or in addition to, a membership.

What does it cost to join?

Nothing. There is no participation fee. Contributions come only from the SKUs you designate, structured around your margin.

How much of each sale goes to CA NORML?

You set it with CDG before launch. Two common models are a small fixed dollar amount added at the register, or a defined portion of existing margin on the designated SKUs.

Can I change which products are included?

Yes. The SKU set rotates as your inventory changes. Most participants adjust seasonally or as stock ages.

How long does setup take?

Most programs launch within a few weeks of the first conversation.

Who handles the money?

Companies Doing Good administers distribution and keeps the records. Contributions are directed to California NORML.

Is this for brands or retailers?

Both. Brands designate SKUs from their catalog and CDG prepares their retail partners. Retailers convert aging or slow-moving shelf stock, which means an existing clearance rack becomes the giveback program.

What do I get back?

Co-branded marketing assets for in-store and digital, event activation support, advertising placement, and quarterly impact reporting you can use with marketing, investors, and licensing applications, plus appreciation and increased respect from your customers.

Do I have to discount anything?

No. Designated SKUs will contribute an agreed upon amount to the program, which can be added onto the wholesale price the brand sells that SKU to the retailer for, or it can come out of the margin on that product.

Will my staff have to run this?

No. Your team designates the SKUs. CDG handles enablement, assets, promotion, reporting, and the relationship with CA NORML.

Can I use this in my own marketing?

Yes, and it is encouraged. CDG produces co-branded materials for exactly that, and quarterly reporting gives you numbers to point at.

What happens if I want to stop?

Participation is not a long-term lock-in and can be set for six-month terms. If you want to stop, you notify CDG 30 days before contract end. We’ll work with you on winding down the program and will agree to the end date for using the assets created.
