Cal NORML announces our annual Cal NORML / ASA Lobby Day will take place on Monday, June 1, 2020 at the Capitol Event Center in Sacramento. (Note: This is a change from the earlier announced date of May 4, and it’s in a new venue this year!)

Sign up to attend lobby day.

Last year’s event was a success, with more than 100 patients, advocates, providers, industry workers, and others attending and lobbying their elected officials for marijuana reform bills. We helped to pass SB 34 (Wiener) to protect compassion programs in California and SB 233 (Hill) To Allow Medical Cannabis Access in Schools.

This year has already seen dozens of cannabis-related bills introduced, and we will be tracking the ones we’ll need to take action on.

Our priorities for 2020 are: tax relief for cannabis businesses and consumers, and employment rights for medical marijuana patients.

The cost to attend lobby day is $25, with no one turned away for lack of funds.

Lobby day begins with sign-in, coffee & bagels at 8:30 AM at the Capitol Events Center, 1020 11th Street, Sacramento. If you have signed up in advance, you will then receive your appointment times and locations for your representatives’ offices. If you haven’t signed up, you can visit a station where you can find out who your legislators are for drop-in appointments.

The morning program will present an overview of the bills on which we’ll be lobbying, along with tips for effective lobbying. You will then be armed with fact sheets on all the bills for your afternoon meetings with lawmakers, along with forms to report on your meetings. Bring the forms with you to the evening VIP reception for lawmakers and attendees starting at 5:30 PM.
