PETITION TO DECRIMINALIZE THE PERSONAL USE OF MARIJUANA The proposed petition seeks support for an ordinance which would instruct the government of Mendocino County to support decriminalization of the cultivation and use of cannabis sativa (marijuana), where these activities are carried out for personal, medical, or recreational purposes. Under the ordinance police protection would be provided to those who grow or possess marijuana for these purposes. The County Sheriff and District Attorney, otherwise, would be directed to assign their lowest priority to marijuana law enforcement, and the Board of Supervisors directed to use its budgetary authority to enforce this. The ordinance would call for the establishment of a maximum limit of marijuana plants and weight for cultivation and possession. Expenditure of public funds to enforce marijuana laws below that limit would be prohibited.
