11:00 AM - 11:30 AM Temporary Cannabis Events and Consumption Rooms

Omar Figueroa and Lauren Mendelsohn of the Law Offices of Omar Figueroa will present an overview of: the history of cannabis events; laws pertaining to temporary cannabis events including AB 2020; the final permanent regulations promulgated by the Bureau of Cannabis Control; duties & responsibilities of cannabis event organizers before, during, and after temporary cannabis events, and; tips, tactics, and strategies for successfully obtaining the requisite local approval for temporary cannabis events. This session will also cover the laws around consumption rooms in California.

1:30 PM - 2:15 PM - What's Still Illegal Under Legalization?
In this session, Jessica McElfresh will cover aspects of running a cannabis business that can run afoul of criminal law, and Bill Panzer will cover activities that remain criminal for individuals in California.

2:15 - 2:45 PM - Protecting the Right to Personal Cultivation under Prop. 64

Tamar Todd of the Drug Policy Alliance will provide attendees with an overview of recent litigation challenging a local ordinance adopted by the City of Fontana that sharply restricted personal cultivation allowed under Prop. 64. She will discuss the scope of the local ordinance, the legal arguments made against it, and the Court’s order striking down the vast majority of the permitting restrictions.

2:45 - 3:30 PM - An Overview of Cannabis DUI issues
Nick Morrow Court Qualified DUI Expert, Retired Deputy Sheriff, and Former DRE will provide attendees with an overview of the various cannabis DUI approaches used by Law Enforcement. Driving behaviors, probable cause for stops, field sobriety testing, symptom review, and current defense strategies will be discussed. This presentation is useful for attorneys, advocates, and lawmakers in understanding the realities of a DUI investigation involving cannabis.

3:45 PM - 4:35 PM - Alan Crowley & Danielle Lucido: Employee Rights and Cannabis in California

4:45 PM - 5:15 PM - CBD and Industrial Hemp—What is Legal? Cutting Through The Myths

Michael Chernis will examine the legality of Industrial Hemp and CBD under Federal law and California law, including recent statements by the California Department of Health concerning consumables containing CBD derived from Industrial Hemp, the Food and Drug Cosmetic Act and its treatment of CBD derived from Industrial Hemp, and the Farm Bill.

5:15 PM - 6 PM - Strategies for Protecting, Enforcing, and Licensing Cannabis-Related Intellectual Property

Amanda R. Conley of Brand & Branch LLP will provide attendees with an overview of the options currently available for protecting and enforcing cannabis-related intellectual property under state and federal law. She will also discuss options for leveraging intellectual property through license agreements that allow cannabis companies to expand their footprint and build national and even international brands.
